The Longest Baseball Games Ever Played

14. Kansas city Royals – A monumental step forward for the Royals, but it has to hurt seeing Wil Myers and Chris Archer having so much success with Tampa Bay.

National League MVP – Carlos Gonzalez, Colorado Rockies. This may come as a shock to people who always look at St. Louis Cardinals Albert Pujols as the automatic preseason pick for MVP. But anyone in the know understands the greatness of this hidden gem in the mountains of Colorado. The 25-year-old Gonzalez will be a legitimate threat to win the Triple Crown over the next few seasons. Last year, he hit 34 home runs with 117 RBIs and a .336 average. Throw in 111 runs scored and 26 stolen bases, as well as being a plus defensive outfielder, and you have the most well-rounded player in all of baseball.

Snodgress is a 23-year old with a high upside. A 5th Round pick in 2011 out of Stanford, he too is off to a 4-1 start for the Barons and is ranked by Baseball America as the top lefty in the sale jerseys organization, second best pitching prospect behind Erik Johnson, a second rounder in the same draft. He is also 23 and is off to a 2-1 start with a 1.44 ERA in five games.

The Tribe, which last won fewer than 70 games in back-to-back seasons in 1927-28, got single runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the White Sox edge to 5-3. In the fifth,Carlin hit his secondhome run and in the sixth, Crowe drove in Travis Hafner, who singled and moved to second on a wild pitch.

Seeing as both starters have had relative success against either club, it wouldn’t be surprising to the series decided by the bullpen- which on paper Chicago decidedly has the upper hand.

Manager Joel Skinner did a masterful job at holding together a team that had a revolving door at the clubhouse entrance. No major league team can survive a season with that many players coming and going, but it is the nature of the beast in the minors especially at the Triple-A level which is one step away from the show.

Years ago, August 17, 1920, to be exact, Cleveland Shortstop Ray Chapman was hit in the head by a pitch thrown by Yankees pitcher Carl Mays. 12 Hours later he died without ever waking up. This tragedy, the only Major League to die so far from being hit, led to a rule requiring Umpires to replace the ball whenever it became dirty.
